Do you love Harris Tweed? I certainly do! I am very excited to announce a new product line launching this weekend: handmade Harris Tweed cushions and coasters by Mrs D.

I have been a busy bee over the past few weeks and have had lots of fun with my sewing machine! I was lucky enough to take a trip to the Isles of Lewis and Harris for a recent holiday. What a truly beautiful part of the world! Whilst there, I enjoyed browsing the Harris Tweed shops and have to admit that our car was bursting at the seams on the way home. I just couldn’t resist lots of lovely bundles of the luxurious handwoven fabric!

Now this wasn’t an impulse buy. I did go to the Islands with a plan: introducing a new by Mrs D product line in Harris Tweed homewares. And here are the results…        What do you think?

As I was making these cushions and coasters, I felt such an affinity with the Islanders who lovingly wove the fabric in their stunning Island homes. There is something about working with Harris Tweed that feels so special. It’s almost as if the history of this world-renowned fabric is carried in every cut of the cloth and, ultimately, to the finished item.

Harris Tweed Cushions (£35) and Coasters (£5 for a set of four) will be available online in my Etsy shop shortly but in the meantime, I am attending a couple of fairs in the coming days and weeks:

• Merchant Square Craft & Design Fair, Glasgow, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June 2015
