What a lovely bank holiday weekend! Mr D and I have had a great time over the past few days with a trip to the village of Crail in Fife, Scotland. Crail sits on the edge of the Firth of Forth, just as it becomes the North Sea. There is something very relaxing about spending time beside the water. What a treat!

With the weather so sunny and the fresh air calling, I’m afraid crafting achievements were relatively limited. I did manage to finish off the Springtime beanie. Here’s a wee sneak peek before its ‘official’ photo shoot…

The sunshine and seaside air also inspired me to spend some time designing – and this was the result…

It’s the beginning of a summer shawl in soft Rowan pima cotton – a DK weight yarn that is perfect for a summer project. I’ve opted for a lacy pattern framed by a double moss stitch border. The lace pattern is called ‘little shell’ – quite apt for a pattern designed by the water! To be honest, I think these little bumps look a lot like little waves, giving this shawl an instant summery feel.

The holiday weekend has definitely put me in the mood for summer. Here’s hoping for a season of lots of sunshine, warm evenings and summertime knitting a-plenty!

  1. Sounds an ideal place for relaxing & knitting! Like the look of your Springtime Beanie! I could try it out next week in the Lake District! Happy knitting!
