It is finally finished. Yes, I have completed my first quilt!
What do you think? I am really happy with the way it has turned out and pleasantly surprised at how quickly it all came together.
The last stage in quilting is to bind the three layers together with a neat edging. For a really clean look, I chose to match the binding to the border fabric. Some others in my quilting class used contrasting colours, which worked well too.
For speed, we used the machine to finish both sides of the binding. However, I understand that one way to finish a quilt is to hand-sew the binding. I think I will try hand-sewing next time – although I daresay the speed of the sewing machine method could be too tempting!
Having completed my first quilt, I am excited to report that I already have an order for quilt number two (thanks Mum)! Not that I needed an excuse to start another one – I have found quilting to be both fun and highly addictive! There is something very satisfying about gradually watching a quilt grow as you piece together lots of small sections of pretty fabrics.
So on that note, I am off to pick out the fabrics for quilt number two. I would love to know your thoughts on my first attempt – and any tips you may have for me will be most welcome!
