Double, double toil and trouble,
Fire, burn; and, cauldron bubble.
(Macbeth, William Shakespeare)
And out of the cauldron came…

Wooooooooooooo Oooooooooooo Aaaaaaaahhhhh! Ta Da! Spooky Halloween cupcakes… complete with snarling pumpkins, scary ghosts and eerie witches’ hats!

Ok, so the cupcakes didn’t quite pop out of the cauldron… but they were produced by my ‘mystical’ new toy – a KitchenAid! The lovely Mr D confirmed his status as the best husband ever when he presented me with a shiny electric blue KitchenAid stand mixer for my birthday earlier this month. Lucky lucky Mrs D!
As this was the first cupcake outing with my new toy, I stuck to my tried and tested vanilla and raspberry jam cupcakes from Love Bakery. I decided that playing it safe with the sponge would allow me to fairly test the results with the KitchenAid… and also allow me more time for spooky decorations! I duly expended a disproportionate amount of effort playing with sugarpaste icing, modelling tools and a liquorice icing pen. I think the ghosts are my favourite… although I wouldn’t like to meet one of those in the middle of the night!

I have also been having fun decorating the house for ‘trick or treat’ on Thursday – which, as it happens, is an excellent excuse to stock up on sweet Halloween goodies!
Next stop pumpkin carving!
